Trade in Cocoa
Cacao (Theobroma cacao) refers to the tropical evergreen tree and the seeds, or beans, that grow on this tree. The seeds are used to produce cocoa and chocolate products. The cacao tree is native to the deep tropical regions of Central and South America. It thrives in hot and humid climates, typically within 20 degrees north and south of the equator. The tree produces large, pod-like fruits that contain cacao beans. Each pod holds numerous seeds surrounded by a white pulp.
